Grade 5 Science Museum Field Trip, May 2011 It was a very busy day at the MOS for our students. Between the electricity/lightning demonstration, the Race Exhibition, and our show at the newly overhauled Hayden Planetarium, the students found time to explore lots of other exhibits and even have a picnic lunch on the Charles River! Book Character Day - February, 2011 Eloise, Mike Mulligan, the illustrious Ham from Green Eggs and Ham, the hilarious Flat Stanley and the ever lovable Corduroy...the 4th & 5th graders eagerly assumed the personae of these favorite book characters, delighting Pre-K through third grade with their polished presentations and imaginative costumes. Kudos to all! Fifth Grade Explorers Simulation A rousing simulation yesterday where some of the most revered explorers were pitted against one another to convince an audience that THEY were the first true discoverer of America...from Brendan the Bold to Leif Ericsson and Prince Madoc to Christopher Columbus. The students took on the personae of these characters with aplomb (see bottom picture). They made their cases...citing evidence, their own maps of the voyage and their sheer charisma to convince us....a little known Norse Trader named Bjarni Herjulfsson seemed to take top honors, however, all were rewarded for their efforts! Fifth Grade Field Trip to Saugus Iron Works Fifth grade had great weather for their visit to Saugus Iron Works and Lynn Woods. The hike to Dungeon Rock was worth the effort. No pirate treasure was found but everyone had a great time exploring the cave. |
